TARGET’s Pioneers
a poem by Garnett Wilson

Garnett WilsonGarnett and his colleague, Elizabeth Loebman are group facilitators for The Fortune Society who completed their first men’s TARGET group on June 22, 2009.  For the graduation, Garnett wrote this poem to honor the five men who participated in the group and to celebrate the completion of their first round of TARGET.  Garnett read this rap aloud to the group with music playing in the background, so it was a real performance piece and meaningful tribute to the group.

Liz and I, just want to say, "Yo, fellows, you guys have been great,"
Although in the beginning some of you couldn't stay awake,
We commend you, because some don't even show up for their intake,
And we all know, ATI attendance you just can't fake;

You guys were the first to pass the test,
Hey, Shaloo, can you lead us in an SOS?
And Kevin, man, you got good at processing stress,
While Andre gave the term "Main Goal" the proper address;

Hey Paul and Geraldo, did you think we forgot?
Geraldo with the "Brain Teasers," you did solve a lot,
And Paul went to his counselor and shared the information he got,
Congratulations, you five dudes really blew up the spot;

We've all learned some stuff from TARGET, we hope to use,
The SEVEN STEPS to FREEDOM and all it includes,
Explore your OPTIONS and watch your life improve,
Reducing your STRESS LEVEL, no more short fuse,
Turning down your REACTIVE ALARM whenever you choose;

Remember the STRESS THERMOMETER, from one to ten,
It will help you measure the STRESS LEVEL you carry within,
None of us understood this on the day we began,
But I think we got it now; bringing this TARGET CYCLE to an end,
So with Kudos and Congratulations from both of us, we do extend,
We gonna break bread now, TARGET gave us 5 new friends.

One Love
